Hi! 👋 I am Samiul. I am a software engineer at Google and live in London, UK. Welcome to my blog! 🎉
As a person from the tech industry, thought I would start off with our usual mandatory “Hello World” exercise. Very unimaginative I know, but at least I was able to avoid a hard problem.
Anyway, while I am a Software Engineer by trade, I am hoping to write about more varied topics. I want to avoid getting trapped in one particular niche if possible, unlike my old blog forthright48.com. If anyone is interested in Number Theory or Competitive Programming, feel free to check it out.
While it’s going to be a niche-less blog, I am not going to write about everything in the universe. Here is what I plan to write about this year (subject to change):
- Blogging 📃
It turns out that blogging itself is a pretty interesting hobby. I want to write about the process itself.
What server am I using? What plugins and tools? How many views and subscribers am I getting? Am I killing it or not yet?
Wish we had information like this for more blogs out there. Maybe this will become a trend? - Linux 💻
A few years ago, during the Pandemic, I picked up this book called: “Building Your Mouseless Development Environment”. It was my gateway into customizing Linux. I now use Neovim and i3 like the cool kids 😎.
Does it increase my productivity? Maybe. Does it make things cooler? Definitely. Do I spend hours customizing my configuration to save a few seconds? Of course! - Book Reviews & Notes 📚
I like to read. Consider it my hobby. Whether or not I read is a different matter though.
I highlight all my non-fiction books and sometimes, I turn those highlights into notes. I promise to integrate the lessons I learn into my life, but frankly, I forget them after a while and never re-read them. Such a shame!
If I upload them online, maybe someone will find them useful? - And many more… 🔭
I am a curious person by nature. My hobbies keep on changing. At the moment, I am interested in Astronomy. I have picked up a telescope and managed to see Jupiter and Orion Nebula so far. Will I write about astronomy? Maybe.
Then there is also journaling, cooking, gaming, and a bunch of more things I do. You know, life. Expect some sprinkles of life here and there.
Oh, and then there is work. Surely I have picked up some gold nuggets about careers by now?
Oh wow, I am overpromising here so much. I am probably backing myself in a corner for sure. Definitely not adhering to the “Under-promise but Over-deliver” mantra!
Until next time,
Samiul
