Waking up on time is not easy. You can set an alarm, but it’s a matter of seconds for your muscle memory to snooze it. At one point, I used to set multiple alarms to ease me back to awake. It worked, but I ended up annoying my wife.
I now use the “Sleep as Android” app. It has many features, but the two I find most useful are:
- CAPTCHA: You scan a QR code/Barcode to stop the alarm. You can decide what code to use. I use the barcode of a facewash in my toilet. That forces me to get out of bed and walk. Getting out of bed is the biggest challenge and this completes it easily.
- Smart Wake Up: Instead of the alarm going off at exactly the time I have asked, it goes off within a 15-minute range I have set. The app can figure out what stage of sleep I am at and ring the alarm when I am at the lightest stage. This prevents feeling groggy after waking up.
Thanks to the app (and the fact that I run to the QR code to avoid waking up my wife), I wake up on time consistently. I don’t try to wake up early though. Just 8 hours after the time I go to sleep.
