Will It Matter a Year from Now?

I use this technique for Stress Management / Embarrassment Management. Whenever I notice I am stressed due to a recent embarrassing event (e.g. mispronouncing a word during a presentation/meeting), I ask myself, Will it matter a year from now?

Almost always the answer is โ€œNoโ€œ. I wonโ€™t even remember the event a year later. Nobody around me will remember it. Everyone will forget. So why bother worrying about it?

If it will matter a year from now, then I should worry. Otherwise, donโ€™t sweat the small stuff.
