As mentioned in the previous post, from now on I will be writing more frequently but in smaller sizes. This makes me worried about spamming my readers. Well, I don’t really have any readers at the moment (0 comments on the blog so far, and the small amount of traffic I have gotten are either me or web crawlers) but it does not hurt to prepare ahead. Always think of the worst case!
I want to hide my microblogs by default to avoid spamming my casual readers, On my home page, I only want to show the proper self-contained epic-posts. The microblog posts should be displayed separately on another page.
Creating Micro Blog
Separating the microblog posts was simple. I just tagged the atomic posts with #micro-post tag and created a new page called “Micro Blog” that shows all the posts tagged with #micro-post. You can see the page in the navigation bar and here: https://samiulsblog.com/micro-blog/.
Filtering Micro Posts from Home
There is no way to filter the micro-post from the rest of the posts on the home page. So I had to tag all non-micro posts with #epic-post tag. Once that was done, I created a new page called “Home” and configured WordPress to use the static page instead of the latest posts in home. You can configure that from Settings > Reading > Your homepage displays
.
But it messes up the theme. I had to manually sync the look of the new “Home” page I created with the theme. Basically, had to prepare a new template for the page that looked the same as before.
Conclusion
With the above, I have the micro-blog somewhat separated from the main blog. Let’s see how this structure evolves over time.
