Back from the 1500+ miles Scotland trip. Here are my thoughts:
- I was worried about getting back problems from the long drive, but managed to avoid the worst by fixing my seating posture.
- NC500 is beautiful! We only did part of it (Applecross to Ullapool) but were thoroughly impressed with what we saw in the small part.
- We will be going back to complete the route sometime in the future.
- It may be more efficient to fly to Inverness and rent a car rather than drive from London.
- It’s safe to Skip Peak District and Lake District if you plan to visit the Scottish Highlands.
- Scotland has over 31000 lakes. You will see plenty of lakes even if you don’t plan to visit a lake.
- Peak District had a scenic route called Snake Pass, but the Scottish Highlands have similar scenic routes, e.g. Bealach Na Ba (though it’s much more treacherous).
- There is something very peaceful about the highland valleys.
- I felt much more relaxed driving between mountains with flat lands covering the gap between the road and the mountains.
- Is there a specific name for such a view?
- The coastal views were beautiful too but I felt more at peace in the highlands. Perhaps it’s just a personal preference?
- I have a feeling I will love the NC500 route!
- Very low light pollution in the Scottish Highlands. Perfect for star gazing.
- Unfortunately, it was very cloudy on the day we were staying at a hotel in a Bortle 2 area.
- No matter the weather, it’s beautiful.
- Google predicted it would be rainy during our trip and I was worried the views wouldn’t be beautiful without the sun. I was wrong.
- Rain or shine, it looked beautiful. The view is different in different weathers.
